My granny's favourite saying I think, and lately it has also become mine.
Convincing my youngest daughter to join my green "revolution" is proving quite difficult, she still prefers to buy biscuits, muesli bars etc from the supermarket rather than make her own. Unfortunately I don't really have the time provide her with the number she needs so I am losing that battle.
She did make macaroons the other day but I was horrified to find that 3 beautiful homegrown egg yolks were wasted in the process. I promptly googled "3 egg yolk recipes" and found the easiest sponge recipe ever for the next time she made the macaroons - where would we be without google.
I persuaded her to make the macaroons again so that I could try it out - both were a great success and were demolished almost immediately.
Here is the link for anyone who needs to use up eggs yolks, it's almost healthy really because it doesn't have any butter and could probably be made into a lactose free recipe if you used soya or lactose free milk. It's quite a small cake, you could easily double it if you need to find a use for 6 egg yolks.
Sorry about the rubbish photos, not sure why they turned out like that.

Great idea! I made pavlova for the first time last Christmas, and wasn't sure what to do with 6 eggs yolks- now I know!
Yes would be excellent for that - you could just make two and have a very impressive sponge to show for it. BTW in my oven 20 mins at 170deg was perfect so be careful when you cook it.
yum yum, i've been experimenting with eggy goodness lately; a friend of ours keeps dropping of cartons eggs, ducks eggs! so i've been baking like mad, awesome big eggs they are! makes me want a duck or two hehe.
I am not very good with baking. But I am impressed that you managed to save those eggs yolks.
Good to see you encouraging self-reliance in the kitchen with your kids. It's great to see a mother-daughter cook-off!
I usually use left over yolks for making vanilla ice cream. It tastes just like soft-serve, only better, LOL.
I fear my children growing up and not holding my values for quality organic food. I probably stated to late on my own journey to make a big impact on my eldest. But I am putting in a big effort with my two youngsters. Getting them to cook from an early age maybe the key. I hope your daughter finds the light like I did in my later years.
The funny thing is Jason that when she was little we called her the eco-warrior and assumed she would spend her adult life hanging off the side a of a Japanese whaling boat. The power of peer pressure is really quite horrendous!!
Hi there, I saw a comment on Green-Change blog about Maran chicks - would you be interested in selling some? I've built a coop and want to start a flock of Marans and Australorps. I couldn't figure out how to email you from this site, sorry (technologically challenged).
